The purpose of YLAAT is to mentor young ladies (ages 10-15) to appreciate themselves by taking care of their bodies, minds, and spirits. The event was hosted by Dr. Fenwa Millhouse who is a Urologist in the Chicagoland area, specializing in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. During her visit, Dr. Millhouse allowed the girls to ask questions anonymously on topics regarding sex and personal hygiene.
Early childhood education is paramount in developing early and lifelong scholars. Second grader, Harper Brailsford, is a prime example of what quality early childhood education programs, teachers, and meaningful experiences can do to prepare future scholars for their future endeavors. Harper wrote an elaborate essay on her aspiration of becoming a Scientist. Her writing won her the opportunity to have lunch with her principal and the opportunity to come and shadow me in my lab. Congratulations Harper Brailsford!
The Color of Medicine launched its first project of its classroom series: Everyday Science Fun with Daniel S. Wentworth Elementary’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) night! We facilitated a science experiment where the students created lava lamps. During the experiment we lectured the students on the properties of oil and water, as well as acids and bases.
